Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer couples massages?
Couples massages are not available as house calls, they are only available at Halo Wellness Studio. https://www.halowellstudio.com/
All couples massages are scheduled though Halo and follow their policies.
What is your cancellation policy?
You must cancel your session directly by email, call, or text at least 24 hours before your scheduled start time to receive a full refund. Sessions cancelled with less than a 24 hour notice will not be refunded.
How much room is needed for the therapist to set up the massage table?
Ideally 8’ x 5’ is needed for the therapist to have enough room to comfortably perform the massage. Most living rooms have plenty of space to set up.
Must I be completely undressed?
You should undress to your level of comfort. Most of our clients prefer to leave their underwear. This is completely up to you. Any clothes left on will be either worked around or completely avoided. You will undress and dress in the privacy of your room and will be securely covered by a blanket and a sheet during your massage session. You will remain draped the entire session and only undraped when working on a specific body part; for example while working on the left leg, only that leg will be uncovered.
When should I avoid getting a massage?
If you are feeling unwell, have a fever, cough, cold, contagious skin conditions, or any serious medical injuries or injuries within the past 72 hours, you should wait until you are better or have clearance from a doctor. If you are in your first trimester of pregnancy a doctor's note is required.
What should I expect during my first session?
Your massage therapist will require you to fill out a health history form. Afterward the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed, and to determine if massage is appropriate for you.
It is important to list all health concerns and medications so the therapist can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm. It is also important to list any allergies so the therapist is aware if he/she needs to use a different oil or lotion during the session.
What if I get an erection during my massage?
Sometimes it happens. Yet, most men avoid massage for fear this will happen to them. Or, they get a massage but are unable to relax because of this fear. But there is no reason to be embarrassed.
Sometimes men get an erection during a non-sexual, therapeutic, full body massage. Touch administered to any part of the body can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which can result in a partial or complete erection.
An educated, professional massage therapist understands this and it will not be an issue. If you are still concerned, I recommend wearing more fitted underwear (briefs or boxer briefs) which provide more support than traditional boxers.
Note: If the therapist feels that the session has turned sexual for the client, male or female, she may stop the session to clarify the client's intent, and may decide to end the session immediately.
How often should I get a massage?
Well, it varies from person to person. If you are just looking for some occasional relaxation, then a session every 3-6 weeks may be fine for you.
However, if you are looking to address a specific condition, then it is recommended to go more frequently at first and then slowly taper down to a maintenance schedule. Frequency of sessions should be discussed with your massage therapist after your treatment when she has a better hands-on understanding of your particular muscular issues.
Why am I sore after my massage?
Occasionally there is soreness after a massage. This will depend on the individual sensitivity of the client, the sensitivity of the area of focus (trigger points are especially prone to soreness) and the intensity of the pressure. If you experience soreness after your massage, an ice pack should be applied for 10 to 15 minutes several times per day. The soreness should dissipate after a day or two.
What should I do during the session?
Just lay there and relax; let the therapist do the work. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
